What specifically is erroneous in our public school system here in America--is anything being done to fix it?

The fact that the federal government is involved. There is nothing in article 1 section 8 (the enumerated powers) that allows the federal government to have ANYTHING to do with education in my state or community. Once the government got involved, there was a noticeable decline in education standards, and our ranking in the world!
