Is there any such thing as a satellite code in a laptop in case if it is lost or stolen, you can find it?

i was watching a TV series called NUMB3RS..the fella says 2005 onward all models laptop has got one. if your laptop is lost, all you have to do is to punch that code. it will pinpoint the location of your laptop. is it true?
