Is it a bad idea to heat a stone teapot on a stove?

I wanted to get one of those 'tea for one' sets and the one that I really like is stoneware. Can I heat it on a stove top or do I need to use something else? I don't like heating my water in a microwave. All I know about it is that it is dishwasher and microwave safe.
