How do I tell if a purse that says Valentino is fake?

I have an old clutch that a relative gave me that is probably fake, but I want to know. It says Valentino PARIS on it in letters that are curved. Is there another fashion brand also called Valentino(besides the well known one)? How do I tell if its a knockoff?
