Why does my red cordalines leaves/spikes break as they grow and the end look all tattered?

Cordilines love semi shade. They can not tolerate direct sun. Also the youngeer leaves are bright and the older leaves tend to loose this. You can trim the tattered portioins with a scissor and maintain their look for some more days before they fall off.
