No power to my sky box AND my tv?

this morning my sky+ box shut itself off completely and somehow did the same to my tv. there is no power going to the sky box. i have unplugged it for 5 minutes and plugged it back in, but still no power. i have also tried plugging it in to a different socket, but still no joy. it is making noises as if it wants to turn on (high pitched whirring noise every so often) but i have nothing. i have checked all power cables and every other cable to both the tv and the sky+ box. i have had no luck at all. i have even been outside to make sure the dish is still on the wall, no problems there. the plug socket itself is working fine. i am at a complete loss! any help would be greatly appreciated as now i have no sky, no tv and a six year old son that will be home at 3pm!
